Reflections From Brendan On His Win … And What’s Next!

On April 5th, in an exciting 33 second knockout, “Brutal” Brendan Barrett won the prestigious Ring of Combat Heavyweight Title — and his fourth Heavyweight Belt – in Atlantic City, NJ.   As sponsors of Brendan’s fight, we were thrilled to join with the sold-out crowd in cheering Brendan on as he claimed this major title – and had the opportunity to learn more about his thoughts on this particular fight … and what he has planned for the future.

Following are Brendan’s thoughts on his recent Ring of Combat victory – to see the actual fight and watch Brendan claim the Heavyweight Title, you can watch the fightHERE.

It was a great night and was very exciting to have so many people there supporting me. I was surprised at how the fight went, I was expecting my opponent to look for the takedown and put me on my back. While we were feeling each other out I quickly realized that he had no intentions of taking the fight to the ground. At that point it was a matter of feeling out his timing, finding the right angle, and exploiting whatever opening he gave me or I made. After he kicked me I swung at him and he backed up to avoid my punches and I used my range to land the left hook that stumbled him and chased him down and landed the right cross that knocked him out.

This win felt especially good because I knew almost nothing about my opponent, I made the adjustments I needed to when the fight wasn’t going the way I expected it to, and because it was my first fight back in Atlantic City in a while where I started my career with my first fight in Boardwalk Hall. I am currently in negotiations with Lou Neglia to defend my new belt on his June 14th card.

Brendan further noted that he is thankful to all of his sponsors for the continued support to enable him to continue to pursue the career he loves – thanking both Collins, McDonald & Gann and the United Mavericks (www.unitedmavericks.com) for their support.  We’re continuing to follow the career, and philanthropic work, of this amazing MMA Heavyweight Title Holder … and look forward to continuing to sponsor future fights as he continues to defend his new belt!
